this is a chinese traditional word, and i think it's used when a pre-commitment was gave away by a girl towards the person she adores, in western culture that's a situation that rarely seen, but you do have similar psychological momentum, so i'd say: "i would do anything for her/him" can have similar effect.

我救了她，她願意以身相許 = She's willing to marry me for saving her life.
